Box Brief
Congratulations to the CFNE Member of the Month…
Karen Hayes!!!

Karen Hayes, CFNE Member of the Month!

Karen Hayes, CFNE Member of the Month!

1)      Karen Hayes! Congratulations! You are *the* Member of the Month. If we could play a victory song for this announcement, what would you choose??
I would probably choose “Happy” by Pharrell. As I said on Ben’s poster, “CFNE is my Happy place

2)      You are an OG CFNE athlete. When did you join, and tell us what that first class/experience was like.
When I started, Ben was still teaching elements. I think that the only people in the class were me, Jan, Pete and Judi Donnelly. We had to run 200 meters and jump over the little orange hurdle hops. I thought I was going to die. I vowed to be a 2-3 times a week person (if that).  Now I just try to NOT be the first one on the list of the Committed Club  (because then people will know that I have no life).

3)    Rumor has it you have some 4-legged friends that sometimes hideout in your car. Do you have friends aside from us???
Ha, actually we have fewer “friends” right now than usual. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. At one point we had 5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, hamsters, a hedgehog, and a gecko.  (Quick tip: You can’t cuddle a hedgehog; dumbest pet in the world.)

4)      What’s a day in the life of Karen Hayes. Let’s get some details.
I try to get up early  so I can get to CFNE early enough to do a little extra. I’ve only been working on double unders for 6 years so I think I must be getting close. Then I get to go to various people’s houses and groom and play with their dogs. Some days are better than others;  the days I don’t get bit, tinkled on or pooped on are the best. Then, if it is during the school year, I either pick up Bryan or go to one of his various sporting events (I GET TO).  Then I do a little weightlifting at home. We bought a  rower, rack and weights, etc. so I try to do the Comptrain stuff that I can at home.  Then dinner , nag Bryan about homework, nag Jan about something (I get cranky at night), TV, then bed. Kinda boring…

5)      If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Well, if you had asked me 30 years ago I would have said Big Mac, French fries and a diet coke.  Now, quite honestly, I don’t have a favorite. If you asked my kids, they would say chicken and rice cakes because that’s all they think I eat.  I would have to have peanut butter M and M’s though. They are my major food weakness.  Oh, and cake. I love cake.

6)      Would you rather… be 3-feet shorter, or 3-feet taller?
Well, I guess 3 feet shorter. I’m pretty sure if I was 3 feet taller I’d be dead from some crazy tall person problem.  Plus, it’d be easier to buy clothes  and, best of all,  I would crush burpees!

7)      It’s a zombie apocalypse. What are the three things you are taking from your house
That’s an easy one, Jan and Bryan and Pete (as long as Jan had Trouble, our bulldog in her arms and Pete and Bryan had my stash of peanut butter M&M’s bag in their arms)!

Finally, I want to say thank you for this honor. CFNE has brought me so much.  They say that friends are the family you choose.  I’m so blessed to have my CFNE family. I’ll be 60 this year, and I honestly can’t imagine ever cutting back on crossfit. I’ll be the 80-year-old in the 8:30 class.  Hope that’s OK with you all!
That is more than OK with us Karen. We would love that. The honor has been ours having you as part of the family. Happy 4th of July! Hope you’re enjoying your rice cakes!
